A large number of women feel depression when they enter menopause. In fact depression and other psychological problems are very intimately associated with menopause. Menopause depression can occur to any woman who is going through the transitional period in her life. When a woman approaches menopause hormonal changes in her body takes place along with a declining level in the estrogen level. These hormonal changes may cause some psychological problems in a woman. She may suffer from anxiety, emotional loneliness and depression. In fact menopause depression is quite common and can become extremely difficult to deal with. The chances of depression in women who approach menopause are very high because along with the physical factors for depression there can be some psychological factors also responsible for triggering depression during menopause. Menopausal women sometimes find it very hard to get them adjusted to changes that comes with age and as a result may develop depression. Again other symptoms of menopause like sleep disturbances, headaches and others also contribute to develop depression. When a woman is suffering from menopausal depression she may experience two to three weeks of constant depressed state of mind with lack of interest in any activities of life. She can also experience changes in her sleep habit, constant fatigue, lack of concentration and attention. She may also feel herself to be totally worthless which can even lead to suicidal tendencies in her mind There is a tendency in many women who experience menopause depression to dismiss the symptom altogether as natural. But depression can be very dangerous and can severely hamper someone’s whole way of life and can even lead to grave consequences. Hence those women who suffer from symptoms of depression when they approach menopause should take the matter seriously and consult a specialist in order to avoid a lot of discomforts in future. Some times a long spell of depression can lead to a number of physical problems. In fact depression is related to an increase in the number of heart attacks suffered by middle aged women. |
